A Simple Formula (Quick Calculator)

If you want to estimate shredded paper filler for any box size, use this quick rule of thumb.

Step 1: Measure the inside dimensions of your box in cm (Length × Width × Height).

Step 2: Multiply them together to calculate the volume in cubic centimetres (cm³).

Rule of thumb:
Grams of paper shred ≈ Box volume ÷ 200 to ÷ 300

  • Full / premium presentation: Volume ÷ 200
  • Standard fill: Volume ÷ 250
  • Light base layer: Volume ÷ 300

Example: A box measuring 33 × 24 × 10 cm has a volume of 7,920cm³.

  • Light fill: about 26g
  • Standard fill: about 32g
  • Full presentation: about 40g

If you were packing around 20 gift boxes like this, you would typically use between 520g and 800g of shredded paper filler depending on how full you want the presentation.

  • Start with filler at the bottom of the box
  • Place the product on top, then add filler around and above for presentation
  • Use more filler around fragile or visible items
  • Store filler loosely so it fluffs out and fills space better

Shredded Paper Filler FAQ

How many boxes does 1kg of shredded paper filler fill?
It depends on box size and fill level, but a 1kg bag typically fills anywhere from 10–60 gift boxes. Use the calculator above for a closer estimate.

Why do results vary so much?
Paper shred fluff varies, and different products take up different space. A fragile item usually needs more filler around it than a solid item.

Do you recommend Light, Standard, or Full?
For most magnetic gift boxes, Standard is the best everyday option. Choose Full for premium gifting, hampers, or when you want extra cushioning.

Making Your Choice

If you're packaging occasionally, a 1kg bag is often enough for many gift boxes. If you're preparing hampers regularly or packing larger quantities, buying 5kg or more can be more economical.
