How Much Shredded Paper Filler Do You Really Need?
Choosing the right amount of shredded paper filler for your packaging can feel tricky. If you buy too little, your box will look sparse; too much, you waste money (and space!). Use this guide, based on our products, to help you decide!
What's Our Filler Like?
- Our paper shreds are crinkle-cut, about 3mm width, made from 80gsm paper
- We sell small packs of 56.6g up to bulk 1kg bags and larger
- Colours and mixes: kraft natural, white, silver mix, pastels, bright tones, etc
How Much Filler Do You Need?
Here are rough guidelines using our shredded paper based on our magnetic gift boxes, so you can estimate how much you'll need. The amounts assume you’re aiming for a full, generous look - covering the base and adding volume around your items. As a reference, a 56.6g pack typically fills a standard shoe box, depending on your density and item needs.

Tips For Using Filler
- Use filler at the bottom first, then item, then more filler around/above the item
- Use filler selectively - more around fragile/visible sections, less behind solid items
- Store filler loosely so it fluffs out - compacted shredded paper filler uses up less visual volume
Making Your Choice
If you're packaging occasionally, a 1kg bag is often plenty. If you're putting together lots of hampers, doing events, or selling often, going for 5kg and more will be more economical. Check the product descriptions and compare with your box or hamper dimensions before ordering!
That’s the end of the blog! Thanks for your time.
